Our Story

SEND CORRY KIDS TO CAMP   The Salvation Army’s Camp Allegheny, located on 110 acres of land dotted with forest, fields, lakes and streams in Ellwood City, PA, showcases the natural splendor of Western Pennsylvania – something very few disadvantaged children from low-income homes have the opportunity to fully enjoy. Camp Allegheny offers a retreat experience with full-service facilities and amenities at little to no cost to the families. Every camp session emphasizes spiritual, character and social development along with physical exercise and exposure to the natural world. The Salvation Army relies upon fundraising from private and corporate foundations, individual donors and special events in order to ensure children of low-income families will not miss this annual opportunity. With the donations we receive from Erie Gives, 15 local children from Corry will be able to attend a week of camp in 2024. Camp provides kids the opportunity to learn how to play a musical instrument or sport. Others may focus on the arts or nature studies. Even a few have been called to Salvation Army ministry while participating at summer camp. Major focal points of the Camp Allegheny experience have always been healthy, rigorous physical activity and exercise in a wide-open space, where kids are free to test their strength and endurance, while providing an environment to also strengthen their character and faith. The Salvation Army understands the importance of wellbeing – emotional, spiritual and physical – especially for developing children.
